How Long Does It Take for Epoxy Floors to Dry?

You may be asking yourself: “How long does it take for epoxy floors to dry?”. If so, you’ve come to the right post. In this post, we’ll be discussing the various aspects to consider when determining exactly how long it will take for your epoxy floors to dry. These aspects could consist of everything from weather conditions, the area of your home where the epoxy floor is drying, to even the style of epoxy flooring used in the installation process. Read on to learn more about how we at Epoxy Floor Experts can help you have your best epoxy floor yet to revitalize your home’s interior or exterior!

So, How Long Does Epoxy Flooring Take to Dry?

Typically, an epoxy floor will take around 12-24 hours to dry and up to 72 hours to fully cure where it’s safe to walk on. If it’s a particularly cold and/or humid day (below 50F with high humidity), you may notice the dry time will become significantly longer. To accelerate the drying process, we turn to a few different options.

How Do You Make Epoxy Flooring Dry Faster?

To help an epoxy floor dry faster, we like to use a variety of solutions consisting of portable, industrial-grade heaters during the winter months, paired with fans to help move things along nicely. From there, it’s simply a waiting game in most cases.

Can You Dry Epoxy Flooring with a Hair Dryer?

We would not recommend using a hair dryer to accelerate the drying and curing process of your epoxy floor, as a hair dryer will spot-dry the floor and not help the entire coverage area dry faster. Additionally, you don’t really know the true temperature of heat your hair dryer is producing. You could easily warp or degrade the quality of the epoxy product if you were to heat up the floor too much in certain spots.

Will Epoxy Stick to Cured Epoxy?

Yes, but there is a process one must carefully adhere to in order to best ensure the new epoxy remains intact to the old epoxy. This process consists of creating a mechanical bond where one slightly sands down the preexisting epoxy floor and creates a somewhat fresh surface. From there, new epoxy can be applied successfully in most cases once the debris and dust is removed.

Will Epoxy Floors Cure in Hot Weather?

Yes, epoxy floors will cure in hotter weather, but if it’s too hot, the floors may cure too quickly. This could lead to a dry time which is way too fast, leading to a reduction in the amount of time you have to mix and apply the epoxy floor coating. This scenario then leads to the possibility for visual imperfections to present themselves and you may have a less than stellar end product. 60F – 80F is the ideal temperature for most epoxy floor coatings to properly dry.

Will Epoxy Floors Cure in Cold Weather?

It depends on how cold it is. If the weather is below 55F, we’ll need to bring in some portable heaters to help things progress as they should. Cold weather prevents the epoxy from hardening and curing properly, which will ultimately lead to a product which is weak and improperly installed. We always place our customers first when it comes to doing the job right the first time, so you won’t have to worry about whether or not your epoxy floor will cure in cold weather, as we’re already on it to ensure you have the best epoxy floor out there!
